Hazardous Materials 01/02/2023 INC#0681 - Hazardous Materials; INC#0681; 12:21PM; 1100 E 16th St; ; Downtown; It is a deep seated fire (not a large amount of active flames) within the pallets. As the HazMat squad is working to confirm the substance (believed to be hand sanitizer) and ensure there is nothing else present, firefighters (in full personal protective equipment) are using Class B foam to suppress the flammable vapors (it is lighter than water thus runs along top of the water flow) while limiting overall water usage (allowing the product to burn off). Sand is being ordered for a damming operation at Paloma St and 18th St towards E Washington Blvd. The CA Water Boards (State Water Resources Control Board) are notified regarding the watershed. LA County Department of Public Heath also notified. There were some vehicles exposed to the fire but firefighters moved them to a safer location. There are no injuries reported. Drivers are advised to avoid the area. ; FS 14; Batt 1; Central Bureau; Council District 14; BC1 BC13 CM20 CM22 E10 E14 E209 E21 E221 E9 EM1 JT6 RA209 SQ21 T21 T9; CH9; 15; Margaret Stewart 01-02-23 12:21 PM

The safest operation is to allow the product to burn off while ensuring it does not damage any vehicles, etc. This will help to limit the water run off which is being contained by a damming operation. There are no injuries reported. This will be an extended duration and drivers are advised to avoid the area. The flames may also be visible from the freeway.; FS 14; Batt 1; Central Bureau; Council District 14; BC1 BC13 CM20 CM22 E10 E14 E209 E21 E221 E88 E9 EA1 EM1 HE2 JT6 RA209 SQ21 T21 T9; CH9; 15; Margaret Stewart 01-02-23 12:41 PM
