Firefighters could hear ammunition being 'cooked off' continuously from the heat and received (unconfirmed) reports the house is used in criminal dealings and could be 'booby-trapped'. Firefighters established a defensive operation and located a 2nd structure behind the home (past a cinder block wall) also burning. Additional resources enroute, putting this at a Greater Alarm status. Update Greater Alarm Structure Fire 12/03/2023 INC#0300 - Update Greater Alarm Structure Fire; INC#0300; 08:30AM; 13755 N Glenoaks Bl; ; #Sylmar; LAFD Firefighters carefully examining the three structures heavily damaged by fire, have discovered weapons, ammunition and the remains of one person (undetermined age / gender / site affiliation) in the debris. No other injuries have been reported. As the three heavily damaged and structurally unstable buildings have been formally 'red-tagged' by the City's Department of Building & Safety as unfit for entry, LAFD crews will be working throughout the day alongside fire cause investigators, police officials and the Medical Examiner to assure hazard abatement that allows for a safe, thorough and methodical investigation of the fire scene, and removal of the decedent. LAFD and LAPD first responders remain deeply grateful to neighbors who quickly came forth at the time of the fire to share insight, observations and concerns, which allowed Firefighters and Police Officers to take immediate and effective action that protected neighbors, adjacent homes and emergency response personnel. Update Greater Alarm Structure Fire 12/03/2023 INC#0300 - Update Greater Alarm Structure Fire; INC#0300; 01:05PM; 13755 N Glenoaks Bl; ; #Sylmar; As Firefighters continue to systematically search the three unstable structures on the 1.6 acre parcel that were heavily damaged by fire, they have discovered an adult female deceased on the premises, bringing the current death total to two adult civilians. The earlier discovered decedent's age and gender have yet to be confirmed. An LAFD Human Remains Detection Canine has completed its search of the scene, and no additional civilian or responder injuries have been reported. LAFD and LAPD personnel continue to work in close coordination under a Unified Command as Los Angeles Fire Department Investigators seek the specific cause of the fire.
