Civilian Fatality Structure Fire - Now Out 04/28/2024 INC#1273 - Civilian Fatality Structure Fire - Now Out; INC#1273; 06:18PM; 136 E 71st St; ; #Florence; PRELIM: 40 LAFD Firefighters took just 14 minutes (6:32 PM) to respond, access, confine and fully extinguish fire within one room of a one-story single family home. During the aggressive and well coordinated fire attack, firefighters discovered one person deceased inside the residence. Their age, gender and site affiliation have yet to be determined. No other injuries have been reported. The cause of the fire is under active investigation. Update Civilian Fatality Structure Fire 04/28/2024 INC#1273 - Update Civilian Fatality Structure Fire; INC#1273; 07:30PM; 140 E 71st St; ; #Florence; *Address Corrected* 40 LAFD Firefighters took just 14 minutes to fully extinguish fire within one room of a one-story single family home. While battling flames, firefighters discovered a *52-year-old male* deceased within his residence. No other injuries were reported. One woman displaced by the fire, desired to seek her own accommodations. There was no evidence of functional smoke alarms in the residence, as required by law. The 101-year-old building was not equipped with optional residential fire sprinklers. A positive identification of the decedent, as well as the specific cause, time and manner of his death, will be determined by the County of Los Angeles Medical Examiner. The cause of the fire remains under active investigation by LAFD Investigators.
