Brush Fire 06/24/2024 INC#0991 - Los Angeles Firefighters responded to a half acre of grass burning in a homeless encampment. As firefighters made access to the flames, there was an explosion causing an injury to a firefighter. The Incident Commander then called for an air ambulance, while simultaneously upgrading the incident to a full brush assignment as they battle the persistent flames, as we care for one of our own. 06-24-24 04:09 AM

Update Brush Fire 06/24/2024 INC#0991 - As the fire fight raged on, it took 80 men and women of the LAFD just under 30 minutes to stop the forward spread of fire in the brush. There were no other injuries reported to civilians or firefighters. Due to the mechanism of injury being from a blast, the firefighter was transported to Northridge Hospital via Air Ambulance. The injuries to the Firefighter are considered to be serious but not life threatening. PIO Erik Scott is at the Hospital to answer media inquires. Homeless encampment fire extended into brush. An explosion occurred and one firefighter is injured and will be airlifted for medical attention. Forward progression of the fire has not been stopped. [verified]
